Annual Meeting, Friday, November 15

ALT Annual Meeting, Friday, November 15, 7 pm at the Avon Free Public Library. Please join us to hear about two land use topics of intense interest to Avon residents:

Town Farm Plans

Rodger and Isabelle Phillips were selected by the towns of Farmington and Avon to lease and manage the Fisher Farm property. They will discuss their own story of managing community farms and their belief in the importance of sustainable agriculture. The couple will delve into the history of the Fisher Farm and how they see its future. They will share their plans for putting this land back into food production, their farm model, the systems they will set in place, the types of products they will produce and how they will engage the local community.

Bear Study Results

Michael Evans is a graduate student in wildlife biology at UConn who is working with DEEP to monitor black bear populations in the Farmington Valley. This year he collected information and specimens on the Land Trust’s Talcott Ridge properties. Mike will share the results of his study and general information about the evolving interaction of bears and humans in our valley.
