Director Biography

Benjamin Isaacson

Secretary

Ben Isaacson is new to the Avon Land Trust, but not to Avon. A resident for 29 years, he grew up in West Hartford and is familiar with many of the town’s open spaces and trails, where he enjoys hiking with his dogs, Berkeley and Tilly.

Ben completed the Master Wildlife Conservationist program through the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection in 2024. Since then, he has volunteered with the agency, contributing to a range of wildlife conservation efforts. His work includes assisting with Canada goose population monitoring through capture, banding, and release; monitoring bat populations in Litchfield County during their active months; and collecting native wildflower seeds for habitat restoration projects on newly acquired DEEP lands. He also worked at the White Memorial Conservation Center, where he traveled to schools to present educational programs featuring live animals.

Ben is a long-time board member of the Avon Historical Society, where he currently serves as the Secretary. He also serves as the secretary for the Foundation of the CT State Community College, Northwestern Campus. In the past, he has served on the boards of the Connecticut Horticultural Society and a board of the Masonicare Health Care Center.

Ben is a teacher who began his teaching career at Moorestown Friends School in Moorestown, NJ. He has also taught in Connecticut and Vermont. Currently, he teaches at Trinity Academy in Hartford, where he teaches a combined kindergarten/first-grade class.

In his free time, Ben enjoys hiking with his wife, Laurie, and their two dogs, as well as spending time at his cabin in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, where he hikes, kayaks, and tends to his gardens and heirloom apple orchard.
