We invite you to consider making Avon Land Trust, Inc., a beneficiary of your retirement plan or your estate.

Contact Your IRA Plan Administrator.

As you may know, there often are significant tax benefits to leaving all or part of your retirement plan to charity.

The first step you will need to take is to contact your plan administrator — either by phone or online — and request a change of beneficiary form; if you are not leaving your plan directly to your spouse, you also may be required to complete a spousal consent waiver form.

The corporate name of our organization is Avon Land Trust, Inc., and our IRS tax identification number is: 06-0897842. You may be asked to include this information on the form(s).

Once you complete the necessary paperwork with your plan administrator, please notify us of your plans. If you wish your gift to be used for a specific purpose, we would be happy to talk with you confidentially about your plans. Our goal is to be sure that your legacy for our organization is carried out exactly as you intend.

Making a Bequest.

Thank you for your consideration of including Avon Land Trust, Inc. in your will. Our recent acquisition of 8.5 acres and an 1820 barn was the result of a will bequest by Marge Dubiel.

Below is suggested sample language to share with your attorney.

“I give (or bequeath) to Avon Land Trust, Inc., Avon, CT, a non-stock charitable corporation, for the general charitable purposes, the following assets: _____________.”

In many cases, it might make sense to name Avon Land Trust, Inc., as a percentage beneficiary of your estate; that way your estate plan can reflect your overall intent and goals regardless of valuation fluctuations.

The Avon Land Trust also has an endowment fund professionally managed by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, where the land trust benefits from the annual income earned, while the principle remains intact.
