Bob Breckinridge
Director
Dr. Robert “Bob” Breckinridge is a lifelong resident of Avon. His love of the outdoors and wildlife began at an early age and was nurtured over the years he grew up exploring much of Avon’s woodlands and waterways. He is an avid skier, tennis player, and golfer. Bob’s passion for Avon’s wonderful outdoors is reflected in his volunteer service. He is a member of the former Natural Resources Commission of the Town of Avon, currently serves on the Avon Wetlands Commission, and is a 26-year veteran of the Avon Land Trust board, having been elected (and served as) president twice.
As President of the Avon Land Trust, Bob led the development of the Land Trust portion of the Hazen Trail. This involved the initial mapping of the trail and feasibility studies and its first construction. He oversaw and spent many hours negotiating the purchase of one of the Land Trust’s signature properties, The Oakes Preserve, a treasured property which he continues to actively oversee and maintain. Bob was directly involved in negotiating the donation of our Marge’s barn property on Huckleberry Hill, now a nature preserve, from a longtime resident.
Bob lives in town with his wife Jane and enjoys visits from his daughter, Sarah, who was raised here. In 2011, Bob was awarded the Avon Citizen Of The Year for his efforts in conserving Avon’s natural beauty for current and future generations. Before his retirement in 2022, Bob was a partner at Avon Dental Group where he practiced dentistry for over 40 years. He loved serving the community as a dentist and continues to serve in his many volunteer capacities – all centered on the goal of preserving our beautiful open spaces.
