3 Local Gems
Where Kids Can
“Chase Childhood”:

1. Blazer’s Trail @ Roaring Brook School
Featuring a short nature trail loop with engaging instructional kiosks, adjacent to a beautiful amphitheater built into the slope of a wooded hill, this gem was the Unplugged Learning’s first project. Located behind the RBS playground, it is open to the public outside of school hours. A wonder-filled spot for all ages!
2. The Oakes Preserve on Chidsey Road
This wildlife preserve has a rich native Avon history and features a lively, evolving cast of wildlife characters. Walk along the short, fascinating hiking loop around “Lake Erie,” picnic at the beautiful centrally located gazebo, and close your eyes to listen to nature’s choir.
3. The Wellner Family Conservation Area on West Main
Unassumingly located behind Staples and Petco on Route 44, the Wellner hiking loop is a little slice of paradise beyond the pavement. Featuring three ~.5 mile trail loops through and around a beautiful wood, and featuring striking interior and exterior views, it’s our top pick for a fun and easy hike – perfect for little ones with short legs and shorter attention spans.
