Trail History:
The Nod Way Trails in Avon, Connecticut, were developed in the early 2000s as part of a community initiative to enhance outdoor recreation and promote land conservation. Collaboratively established by the Avon Land Trust and the Town of Avon, the trails feature diverse terrains suitable for hiking, and nature walks, showcasing the region’s natural beauty and biodiversity. One of the town’sfounders, Amasa Woodford, owned this land in the early 19th century. The Garvin and Maher trails are on land that was once pasture land for cows. On the Garvin trail loop, visit Monument Rocks, known as “Tinkers Midden” to see discarded cookware and other artifacts.
Wildlife overview:
The Nod Way Trails feature lush woodlands, wildflower meadows, and serene streams, offering scenic viewpoints and opportunities to spot diverse wildlife, including deer, various birds, and sometimes porcupines.
