Ed grew up in Avon on Huckleberry Hill Rd. and attended Avon Schools playing sports for and graduating from Avon High School in 1971. After receiving his college degree from Babson College in 1975, Ed worked for a CT Modular Building manufacturer as a purchasing agent and then later transferred to a position in charge of building and erecting the modular complexes as a site superintendent. Following this 10-year term, he joined Walker Crane and Rigging Corp. in 1984 filling a General Manager position and became sole owner of the company in 1995. Ed had 38 successful years at Walker and sold the business to retire in March of 2022.
Throughout his life, Ed has always been involved with carpentry and construction activities with his father as well as with his career activities in the modular building business. When he was with Walker Crane and Rigging Corp., he continued to be heavily involved with construction type rigging services. The company installed large heavy equipment of all types and sizes, from precast structures to heavy duty electrical gear and HVAC equipment working for major contractors and industry throughout the northeast, primarily in CT. Ed also started and grew a long-haul trucking operation which complemented the crane and rigging business, operating 15 tractor trailers throughout the US and Canada hauling heavy and often over-dimensional equipment and specialized machinery for its customers
In recent years, Ed has volunteered for the Avon Land Trust helping out with carpentry and construction tasks performed on several of the properties which the Land Trust owns and maintains. He enjoys retirement by maintaining the properties that he and his wife Peg own on Cape Cod, in FL and CT as well as playing golf, boating and being an avid fan of the UCONN Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs. He and Peg consider “home base” New Hartford, CT.
