Director Biography
Scott Lewis
Treasurer
Naturalist, outdoor adventurer, and accountant, Scott Lewis has shared his valuable skills and expertise with the Avon Land Trust Board since joining in 2012. He currently serves as the board Treasurer. In addition – and equally important – Scott is the ALT’s master trail blazer (and maintainer) caring for, often singlehandedly, our many hiking trails. If you are regularly hike on land trust property’s, there’s a good chance you’ve run into Scott and his pruning and cutting tools.
Scott is also an historian and author. He has given several presentations on the town of Avon’s history and recently published a book entitled Avon, Connecticut’s First Century–Visionaries and Victims. A descendant of signer Josiah Bartlett from New Hampshire, Scott serves as Treasurer-General for the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence, a national genealogy society.
Prior to his retirement in 2023, Scott was a senior vice president at the insurance company, The Hartford, where he served as Controller and Chief Accounting Officer from 2013 to 2023. Scott resides in Avon with his wife and fellow Board member, Ruth, where they have lived for twenty years and raised their two adult children.
