Director Biography
Susan Rietano-Davey
Vice President
Susan Rietano Davey has lived in Avon all her adult life and knows many of the town’s open spaces like the back of her hand. An Avon Land Trust board member for over twenty years and Vice President for ten, she manages the trust’s public and community relations efforts and publishes the annual newsletter. Susan also leads our Unplugged Learning Project which offers programs and infrastructure to inspire K-12 children (and their families) to interact with nature more – and screens, less. (You can see her most Fridays leading a long line of children on the “walking schoolbus” to Roaring Brook School.) UPLP’s goal was and remains to get young people connected to the land now, so they can be better stewards of it later.
Susan has deep roots in the Avon community. Among her many engagements, she has coached and directed youth sports and performing arts groups; was the longtime teen music director at St. Ann’s church; led the Avon Booster Club for many years; was president of ACORN, Inc. and the Lights on Avon campaign which brought lights to Avon High School’s turf field; and was a founding member, and chairperson, of the Avon Falcons Athletic Hall of Fame.
A long-established career and workplace expert, Susan cut her teeth in Fortune 50 Tech, took a career break to have four children, then grew two successful companies that guide women through challenging work-life transitions and help companies attract, retain, develop, and advance the best female talent. She is married to Bob and mother of four young adult kids who proudly bear the imprint (i.e. scraped knees and wandering hearts) of the Avon woods.
In her free time, Susan teaches Yoga, Pilates, and Barre; enjoys hiking, running, skiing, cycling, paddle-boarding, and pickleball; reads and writes; and makes, consumes, and dances to lots of music.
